Islam is the official religion in Mauritania. Despite the ethnicity and cultural differences among Mauritanians, they all have a common Muslim attachment to the Malekite sect. Dress for women should be uncompromisingly modest.

Granting Visas and Work Permits

Visitors, contractors or permanent employees from Côte D’Ivoire, Gambia, Libya, Mali, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia shall need to apply for a Mauritanian French embassy or consulate in their home and host country. In cases where there is no diplomatic representation available, the French embassy can issue visas 4 visas only.
