Population: Though Niger’s official languages are French and Arabic, half of the population speaks Hausa as well as Djerma, Fulani, Manga, Zarma, and Tuareg dialects.

In Niger, men are entitled to 1 day of paid paternity leave.

  • In Niger, an employment contract can either terminate at expiry or be terminated by either party on a mutual agreement.
  • To terminate an employee, employers must provide a justified and valid reason for dismissal. Any reason deemed ‘abusive’ under the Labour Code will result in legal repercussions for the employer.
  • The termination notice must be provided in writing.

In Niger, employees are entitled to severance pay but only if they worked for at least one consecutive year under the same employer. If they are dismissed for misconduct, they are no more eligible for severance pay.
